DEPARTMENT: GEORGE MEMORIAL LIBRARY - ADMINISTRATION

JOB TITLE: MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Directs and oversees the marketing, publicity, promotion and of library services and activities; including website design and development.  Coordinates media relations and serves as library spokesperson.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the website development, oversight and maintenance.  Develops and implements the library marketing plan and resulting public relations activities, including branding, social media, promotional publications, etc.  Manages media relations and acts as the primary contact and spokesperson to media and local community groups, including writing/overseeing press releases.  Plans and coordinates all library system publications, including electronic/web content.  Responsible for graphics production including providing appropriate promotion and awareness of library products, services and programs.  Designs and conducts marketing surveys and studies.  Creates, develops and routinely updates a style manual and templates for branch staff to use when creating flyers and handouts at the branch level.  Produce annual report and monthly newsletter.  Edits reports and other written documents for administration as necessary.  Participates as member of Administrative Council.  Oversees photography, videography for the library system.  Assists with and/or writes grants.  Interviews, trains, and prepares work schedules, supervises and reviews performance of department staff.  Recommends selection of new employees, employee transfers/promotions, disciplining/discharging and salary increases.  Other duties as assigned.  Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s Degree in Library Science with emphasis on marketing or communications or Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.  Five years job related experience.  Strong computer, database, web design experience preferable; word-processing and typing (45 WPM) skills.  Exceptional visual, verbal and written communication skills; exceptional organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the media, public, other employees and elected officials.  Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner; ability to prioritize own and others’ work; ability to work under extreme deadline pressure at times.  Working knowledge of publication layout and related software, Adobe Create Suite, printing techniques, paper and inks, color coordination, HTML, web design and related software, media relations, and marketing tools and techniques.                                

 

SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management Grade 12, $2,154.40 - $2,534.40 biweekly based on qualifications
