Position Objectives

THE POSITION OF:  Utilities Engineer

IN THE DIVISION OF:  Public Works/Utilities


SALARY:  Depends on Qualifications

Typical job duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare plans and specifications for utility system improvements and services.
  • Develop and manage utilities division project and programs plans and schedules.
  • Manage and/or assist with engineering data, manuals, prints, drawings, etc.
  • Support day to day lab, operations, maintenance, safety activities from a utilities engineering perspective.
  • Create necessary utilities division engineering files and records as necessary.
  • Evaluate and recommend any updates to software as deemed appropriate.
  • Prepare cost estimates for Utilities Division projects and programs.
  • Work with consulting engineer on Utilities Division projects and programs.
  • Prepare progress and final reports.
  • Attend meeting to gather, understand, document and respond to internal and external requirement.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Reconcile payment requests from contractors, consultants, and engineering service providers.
  • Work with contractors, consultants and service providers to monitor progress versus schedule, including receipt and review of required reports.
  • Required to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Detail oriented, and able to adhere to strict deadlines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid PA driver's license Class C required
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of physicals and natural services pertaining to water, wastewater, and storm-water systems and treatment is required.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state rules, regulations and standards.
  • Proficient using MS project, and able to learn Primavera.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in civil, environmental, or closely related field required with 3 years’ experience. An Associate’s degree will be considered based on a minimum 5 years experience towards engineering.
