Reads water meters for new and existing services, by either utilizing hand-held equipment or visual observation, and accurately recording consumption under the direction of the Utility Billing Administrator.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads water meters accurately in assigned area using computerized meter reading equipment or visual observation.
  • Responds to customer complaints and inquiries regarding water services such as leaks, meter malfunctions and various other items.
  • Reports service leaks, faulty meters, broken or missing dials, glass coverings, meter lids, and damaged boxes to supervisor.
  • Determines meter reading consistency; ensures proper meter registering, reports suspicious or illegal connections to supervisor; verifies misread or high consumption readings.
  • Recommends new account sequencing and re-sequencing of existing accounts to reflect logical reading order.
  • Cleans meter faces; removes mud, dirt, water and/or debris as necessary from meter box.
  • Operates and maintains various City vehicles and equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Participates in billing process, as necessary.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment used in daily activities.
  • Ensures adherence to safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.
  • May perform other assignments and assist with special projects as required.


 Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. One (1) year of experience in customer service related field preferred.  Must possess a Texas Driver's License.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the provisions in the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of motorized equipment on public streets and highways.
  • Knowledge in the use of standard hand tools, computerized meter reading equipment and trucks.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks, planning and
  • Skill in providing good customer service.
  • Ability to quickly learn and retain how to use all
    required tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use two-way radios.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other employees,
    departments, and the general public, and exhibit a positive attitude.
  • Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule.


Salary:  $ 12.40 per hour Full Time /40 Hours Per Week           To Apply Online
