The Library Branch Manager plans, organizes, and directs the operations of a cluster of branch libraries, with each branch supervising librarian reporting directly to the manager, and related library outreach efforts to provide a comprehensive program of library services. The incumbent supervises and evaluates the work of staff, monitors and implements budgets, coordinates with administration and other managerial staff on policy and procedure, participates in public relations activities, and ensures proper maintenance and safety of the facility and equipment. 

Cluster branch libraries include:  

Vallejo Cluster: John F. Kennedy Library and the Springtowne Library.

Fairfield Cluster:  Fairfield Civic Center Library, Fairfield Cordelia Library, and the Suisun City Library.

Vacaville Cluster: Vacaville Public Library - Cultural Center, Vacaville Public Library - Town Square, and the Rio Vista Library.

The Library Branch Manager reports to the Deputy Director of Public Services and serves as the primary liaison between the branches and administration. The position involves frequent travel between branches.

  • An experienced library supervisor with a strong record of accomplishments, professional commitment, integrity, and outstanding interpersonal skills. 
  • An effective leader who has the ability to develop, motivate, and properly direct professional and supervisory staff. 
  • A leader who can spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and champion learning. 
  • Well-versed in innovation and public library trends and able to create new opportunities for service or enhance existing services. 
  • Able to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, implement recommendations in support of goals, and monitor the results. 
  • A strong communicator and able to summarize and present information about the value and direction of the Library to varied audiences, including the staff, the community and other stakeholders, and other County departments. 

This position is an "at-will" senior management position and is exempt from the civil service; incumbents serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience:  Four (4) years of professional librarian experience involving the provision of public library services including reference and collection development as well as programming including two years of experience supervising professional level staff.

Education: Masters degree in library science from an accredited college or university is required. 

Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.
