The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for the position of Police Academy Trainee in the Police Department. The Police Academy Trainee is a non-sworn training position. Under close supervision, the Police Academy Trainee will complete a formal, comprehensive California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certified Basic Academy training program; learn basic law enforcement legislation and principles, police procedures and techniques and do other related work as required. Upon satisfactory completion of the training and graduation from the Academy within the prescribed training period, the Academy Trainee will be sworn in as a Police Officer with full police authority.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. or California High School Proficiency Test. The completion of college level course work is desirable.

 

License: Ability to attain a valid California C drivers license and have an acceptable driving record that meets the Citys policy standards.

 

Special Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment; be a citizen of the United States of America or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship. Prior to appointment, candidates must successfully complete a polygraph test, psychological and medical examinations, and an extensive background investigation process.

 

Additional criteria under MBPD policies and rules: No Felony or Domestic Violence convictions.

 

HOW TO APPLY:

Applications received by below due dates will be scheduled for the corresponding written exam and physical abilities test—if you are unable to make the written date you will not be rescheduled and will need to wait for a new recruitment to open in order to apply again with the City. In addition, if you tested within the last six (6) months with the City, you will have to wait a period of six (6) months to re-apply and re-test.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The selection process may consist of the following components and exam weights:

 

Written Test: To measure reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills  -  Qualifying

Physical Agility: Time event measuring ability to perform the physical activities qualifying required of a Police Officer  -  Qualifying

Interview: To evaluate training, experience and personal qualifications.  -  100%

 

* If you have taken the POST Pellet-B test within six (6) months of our testing date and received a T-Score of 45 and above, please SUBMIT the result letter with letterhead from testing Agency along with your application.

 

* The exam process may be changed as deemed necessary by the City Human Resources Department

 

Applications will be reviewed and a select group of candidates whose background and experience best meet our requirements will be invited to test. Candidates must successfully pass each step of the recruitment and selection process to be placed on the eligible list. Final appointment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of an oral interview, a Pre-Background interview, an extensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, Police Chiefs interview and a pre-employment medical examination.
