This position performs technical and administrative work overseeing the operation of the City Government, City School facilities, and building assets. The Facilities Maintenance Manager directs and coordinates the routine repair, preventive maintenance, and custodial services to buildings either owned or leased by the City, including schools. This work includes responsibility for all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical, and solar photovoltaic systems. Responsible for the supervision of building trades, mechanical services, custodial and maintenance. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Public Works Director. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and strive for success by demonstrating Charlottesville's Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Excellence, and Respect. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Extensive and broad professional experience in facilities management, including directing and/or leading facilities maintenance teams.
  • Experience creating a highly responsive, customer-oriented portfolio of facilities-related services.
AND
  • Bachelor's degree or higher and 3 years of relevant work experience within the last 5 years; OR
    • Trade school certificate or associate's degree and 5 years of relevant work experience within the last 7 years; OR
    • High school graduation or equivalent and 7 years of relevant work experience (a minimum of 7 years public or a minimum combination of 4 years public and 3 years private) within the last 9 years.
Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Building Operator Certification (BOC) issued by the Northwest Energy Council or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.

The starting salary will be between $61,133.90 – $89,093.20 dependent on the education and experience level of the candidate.
