Anoka County Central Communications 9-1-1 Dispatch Center is seeking experienced police, fire and EMS dispatch applicants for immediate and future vacancies for the position of Dispatcher II.  The Dispatcher II will receive and record requests from the public for emergency and non-emergency assistance and will process these requests consistent with the requirements of the situation.  
The work schedule includes shifts to cover 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.


Answers all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls and obtains pertinent information necessary to the dispatch process; Refers callers to other appropriate agencies as required; Maintains accurate records on each request for assistance, using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; Uses a network to exchange information with other law enforcement agencies and to verify drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, stolen and recovered property and personal identification; Enters messages and requests for information; Monitors all assigned radio channels on 800MHz Radio System; Alerts appropriate agencies to severe weather conditions as required; Produces and maintains records relevant to the daily administration of the Communications Center; Makes continual progress toward becoming radio qualified at all dispatch positions; Assists other Dispatchers as required.


High School diploma or possess a G.E.D. certificate.  Must have a minimum of three years law enforcement dispatch experience.

Ability to: Operate specialized electronic systems and equipment, including Computer Aided Dispatch system and Radio Consoles; remain calm in stressful situations and prioritize a heavy volume of calls; ability to type 40 words per minute. Ability to deal with stressful situations; remain calm and respond with composure to effectively handle emergencies; remain at a telephone/radio console for extended periods of time. Understand and apply procedures in dealing with confidential data. Ability to work with a multi-cultural population.
Skill in: Written and oral communications. Must be able to receive information accurately and articulate information necessary to the calls.
Must successfully complete a background check, including a BCA Criminal History check.

IMPORTANT: Work Schedule Information
The work schedule for the job of DISPATCHER requires shift work that includes being assigned varied shifts throughout a 24-hour period.  These shifts will include afternoons and evenings, weekends, and holidays, WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Shifts are assigned based on seniority with Anoka County Dispatch. Please take this into consideration when applying for this job.
Testing: Candidates who are screened in will be required to complete job specific testing, skills based typing and participate in a dispatch center sit along.  This process will take approximately three hours.

Grade: 10
Normal Hiring Range:  $21.36 - $30.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience.
Full Salary Range: $20.80 - $31.64 per hour.
