Description

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the supervision and coordination of day-to-day operations within the Maintenance Department to ensure the timely and efficient maintenance and repair of both revenue and non-revenue Amarillo City Transit vehicles in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations, including day-to-day housekeeping oversight. Identifies and schedules the repair of all Amarillo City Transit vehicles: monitors the quality of such repairs; oversees road call operations; controls parts and materials usage; investigates and resolves issues pertaining to the repair and availability of equipment. Participates in the discipline process; either administering or recommending appropriate disciplinary action to be taken. Serves as a leader and manages employee conflicts and counsels employees relative to rules, regulations, and policies. Responsible for promoting a customer service focus while maintaining a high level of productivity and efficiency on the floor. Completes all reports and documents as required; and other related duties as assigned. A high school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of seven (7) years experience as a mechanic is required. Requires at least 5 years of supervisory experience. Supplemental training through an accredited technical school or training is preferred. Five years of progressively responsible positions in a Transit Fleet Operation is preferred. A Texas Class B CDL with Air Brakes' and Passenger endorsement is required. Solid technical in theory and application of the following systems is required: - Hand tools, heavy duty air brake systems, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, drive lines, transmissions. - Basic electrical systems including charging and starting system. Steering and front axle lubrication. - Cooling systems - Diesel and gasoline engines - Basic HVAC systems - Must be willing to acquire ASE Certification Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Subject to after hour evening and weekend call backs. Salary: $34,342 year ($16.51 hour)/DOQ
