The City of Portland, Texas, is seeking a motivated and customer service focused multi-tasker to join our team as Building Official.

The Building Official will conduct on-site inspections of residential, industrial, and commercial construction, alteration, or repair to ensure compliance with city building electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fuel gas codes and ordinances. 

Requirements:
Valid Drivers’ License with a clean record.

At least 3 years’ experience of building inspections and plan review.

Excellent customer service and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Dipolma or equivalent and 3 years or more of progressively responsible building inspection experience is required. 

Must successfully obtain Plumbing, ICC, Mechanical, Electrical, and Building certifications within 6 months of employment.

Experience with the “SmartGov” permitting system is preferred. 

Additional preferred areas of expertise or experience should include development, implementation and support for F-O-G and Backflow programs; GIS; code enforcement initiatives; and other “Team” duties as required.
