This exciting position works Monday-Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm as well as occasional after hours when in an emergency operation is activated.

The ideal candidate must be able to assist in the diagnostics, scheduling, coordinating and supervision of maintenance and repairs to the City’s Water and Wastewater Systems. The ideal candidate must maintain a knowledge and appreciation of Sugar Land and its basic safety standards and practices. An understanding of basic tools, equipment and power tools are a must for this candidate. We are looking for a candidate that is able to work independently and in a crew with minimal supervision.

What We Need from You as A Crew Chief in Water Distribution

As our Crew Chief, you will represent the City of Sugar Land Public Works Department. You will be responsible for all aspects of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. You will be responsible for working with a crew to perform any required work assigned for the day. Much of your day will be spent outside in various and unpredictable weather hazards. This position will enhance team building skills and your knowledge of preventative maintenance programs for the water and sanitary sewer system which includes valves, hydrants, and manhole maintenance. It is your priority to deliver excellent customer service to our citizens while maintaining the City of Sugar Land’s beautification efforts through our City’s drainage systems.

The ideal candidate is dependable, motivated, trustworthy, and responsible.  You listen to your superiors and co-workers. You are a quick learner and thorough, so your work orders are completed by each deadline. You follow through and are accountable for all actions. Being at work on time is a priority along with following all safety protocols. When an emergency situation arises, you are not easily flustered, but are willing to work hard to help in any way designated by your leadership team.  A great candidate would also ensure that routine maintenance programs are maintained and completed in a timely manner. At the end of the day, you get great satisfaction out of completing a hard days’ work by making our citizen’s experience with water and wastewater systems smooth. If you can do those things and meet the following requirements, we would be happy to speak with you:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
  • Two years of related experience in operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems is required.
  • Municipal government customer service experience preferred, but not required.
  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
  • TCEQ Class “C” Distribution, or the ability to obtain one within first two years of employment.
  • TCEQ Class “II” Wastewater Collection License, or the ability to obtain one within first three years of employment.
