Senior Planner

Located just 25 miles from Fort Worth, Granbury, Texas, is a community ideally situated on the edge of the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  It covers 14 square miles with room for growth and is in Hood County.  Granbury prides itself on being cultural, culinary, and outdoor mecca, all with a vintage twist.  Live theater and musical performances are offered year-round at the recently restored 1886 Granbury Opera House and at the Granbury Live performance hall, both on the Historic Granbury Square.  As the first courthouse in Texas to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Square also serves as a charming backdrop to an electric mix of galleries, shops, wineries, and eateries.

Lake Granbury is a virtual water playground with a sandy city beach, boating and skiing, fishing, and everything in between.  Granbury’s extensive trail system is perfect for a leisurely walk or a more active hike or bicycling experience.

Granbury has been selected as the Best Historic Small Town in America 3 years running.  Granbury is the county seat for Hood County and has a population over 10,000 but serves a county population over 65,000.  Granbury is a home rule municipality operating under a council-manager form of government.  The City has a total annual budget of over $50 million and employs a staff of 200.

The Senior Planner position plays a key role in the Community Development Department.  The individual selected will be involved in and have a great amount of responsibility for all aspects of planning including current and long-range planning, transportation planning, historic preservation, and GIS development.  The Senior Planner will be a key point of contact with the development community and is responsible for establishing a positive tone in the administration of the City’s development, historic and subdivision review processes.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography or a related field from an accredited college or university.  A master’s degree in urban planning from an accredited college or university is desired.  In lieu of a master’s degree, additional experience in current and long-range municipal planning may be substituted.   Five (5) years progressive experience in both current and long-range municipal planning is desired.   American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification with considerable experience in the administration of current and comprehensive urban planning activities and historic preservation proposals desired.  Any combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City of Granbury offers a competitive salary, $64,545 to $96,818 based on qualifications and experience.    The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a city matching ratio of 2:1.   A full range of leave and insurance benefits is also provided to full time employees.  The city also provides a 9/80 work schedule where employees have every other Friday off from work.
