The ideal candidate must be able to assist with feeding, cleaning, walking, and caring for all Sugar Land animals in the Animal Services Shelter.  The ideal candidate must maintain a knowledge and appreciation of Sugar Land and its basic safety standards and practices. An understanding of Animal adoption operations is a must for this candidate. We are looking for a candidate that can work independently and in a team with minimal supervision.   The perfect candidate will have experience with animal shelter operations. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness, and dependability. 

We are looking for someone who can provide exceptional customer service for a variety of coworkers, supervisors and the general public with professionalism and patience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

What We Need from You as Kennel Technician

As our Kennel Technician, you will represent the City of Sugar Land Animal Services Division. You will be expected to clean and care for the animals within the Shelter. Most of the day will be spent feeding, cleaning and spot checking the kennels. Walking the dogs and socializing with the cats is paramount for this Kennel Tech Role. You will be responsible for assisting the Veterinary Technician with the administration of medications indicated by the contracted Veterinarian. Most of your day will be spent around animals. This position will enhance team building skills and your knowledge of animal operations. It is your priority to deliver excellent customer service to our citizens while maintaining the City of Sugar Land’s success with our Animal Shelter. 

The ideal candidate is hard-working, patient and detail oriented.  You listen to your superiors and co-workers. You are diligent and able to multi-task, so your duties get completed in an organized fashion. You follow through and are accountable for all actions. Being at work on time is a priority along with following all safety protocols. When an emergency situation arises, you are not easily flustered, but are willing to work hard to help in any way designated by your leadership team.  At the end of the day, you get great satisfaction out of completing a hard-days’ work by making our animal’s experience at the shelter a success! If you can do those things and meet the following requirements, we would be happy to speak with you:

  • High School or GED Certificate required. 
  • One year of experience working with animal services required.
  •   Data entry or administrative experience is preferred. 
  •  Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
