Under the supervision of the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Supervisor, this full-time position performs, assists in, and is responsible for, the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position operates equipment such as pumps, air compressors, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, forklifts, and other water/wastewater related equipment. Other duties may be assigned. This position is included in the department’s after hours and weekend stand-by rotation.

This position requires strenuous physical exertion and applicants must be able to carry a minimum of 100 pounds. The positions require work outdoors and in occasional extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather. These positions are considered essential and attendance is mandatory in the event of a storm or disaster.

Qualifications

Applicants must pass a physical examination, drug screening test, and background check. High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s Class C License is required. Water Distribution/Wastewater Collection Maintenance Technician applicant must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class "D" Water Distribution license and a Class "I" Wastewater Collection license or Class "D" Wastewater Treatment license or be able to acquire both within six months. Street Maintenance Technician applicant must possess a Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Political Subdivision Pesticide Applicator License or be able to acquire within six months. Preference will be given to applicants with mechanical and heavy equipment operator experience.
