Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, the Springfield community is known for its breathtaking mountains, majestic trees, fantastic parks, and numerous arts and recreational activities. Situated in Lane County 110 miles south of Portland, Springfield is located between the beautiful McKenzie and Willamette rivers within an hour of both the Cascade Mountains and Oregon’s popular coast. It lies adjacent to I-5 within the Eugene-Springfield Metropolitan Area and covers 15.84 square miles with a population of more than 62,000 residents. The City of Springfield is seeking a skilled, strategic leader with a passion for building community through a commitment to economic development and revitalization. The right fit for this position will have experience in business recruitment, expansion, and retention initiatives and understand how to develop, implement, and assess short- and long-term strategies to achieve established City objectives. The ideal candidate is someone ready to make a difference, leading change and progress in a city with a highly skilled and educated workforce and limitless potential. They should understand the region’s real estate trends and market dynamics and inspire confidence among developers, business owners, and the general public, particularly as the community recovers from the impacts of the pandemic. They should also be customer-service-focused and collaborative, someone who makes a wide variety of audiences feel heard and understood. Past success in redevelopment efforts will serve this position well, as will experience working with elected and appointed leaders, members of the media, and an engaged resident population. Any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be considered. A typical way of acquiring them would include a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field and five to seven years of progressively responsible, relevant experience, including at least a year of program or personnel management. The selected candidate will also need a valid Oregon driver’s license. The City of Springfield is offering a starting salary of $87,852 to $122,993 for this position, depending on experience and qualifications.
