JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under general supervision of the Support Services Captain, the Building Maintenance Worker performs routine manual labor in cleaning and maintaining the City’s public facilities.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Clean and service assigned areas, including Police Building and the surrounding areas.
  2. Maintain and order supplies necessary to perform custodial services.
  3. Deliver supplies and transport materials/equipment/furniture to various areas.
  4. Operate buffer, carpet machine, vacuum cleaner, and other cleaning devices.
  5. Clean, maintain, and service tools/equipment (i.e. change belts and pads on vacuum cleaner).
  6. Operate various hand tools (i.e. drills, sanders).
  7. Clean all glass, enamel, tile, and porcelain surfaces.
  8. Touch-up all painted surfaces as needed.
  9. Empty all trash containers and dispose of trash.
  10. Transport recycling bins to and from curb.
  11. Sweep or blow all debris away from concrete sidewalks.
  12. Arrive at work every scheduled workday on time, in good physical and mental condition.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

2.      Perform other duties as assigned or directed by a supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.      Valid Texas Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

2.      One year experience as custodian or in building maintenance.

3.      Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with fellow employees and the community.

4.      Ability to read and understand printed and spoken instructions, warning labels, signs, etc. in the English language.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally performed indoors and outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes.  Incumbent may be exposed to dust, fumes, and hazardous cleaning chemicals, diseases, bites, and other possible dangers dealing with animals and maintenance of public facilities.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to grasp, handle, feel, listen, reach, see, walk, and/or stand.  The employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, twist, pull, and/or push up to 47 lbs. a distance of up to 100 feet.  The employee is occasionally required to speak, climb, kneel, crouch, twist, lift, carry, drag, balance, push, pull, and/or move animals or objects up to 100 lbs. unassisted, and/or drag animals or objects up to 150lbs. unassisted.  Employee must follow safety guidelines and use the required safety equipment.
