The Pump and Motor Crew Chief supervises pump and motor technicians and leads team in maintaining the city’s sanitary sewer lift stations and other water and wastewater systems.  Directs and prioritizes the team’s daily duties, which include mandatory lift station inspections, lift station operation checks, pulling, cleaning, and installing lift station pumps, preventive maintenance, diagnostics and corrections, and safety tasks such as repairing fences and grounds keeping.

  • Supervise and lead the pump and motor technicians. Give instructions and assignments to technicians.
  • Provided guidance and hands-on instruction/training to pump and motor technicians so they can fulfill their job duties successfully. 
  • Maintain proper operation of the sanitary sewer lift stations by understanding mechanical and control components, their function, and how to troubleshoot, repair, and replace components as needed to restore proper functionality.
  • Assists with the preventive maintenance program and with corrective repairs to the sanitary sewer lift station equipment such as pumps, valves, controls, emergency bypass pumps, etc.
  • Assists with the preventative maintenance program and with repairs to the water and wastewater facility plants equipment such as pumps, motors, hoists, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and heavy equipment with supervision
  • Assists in the activities involved in Utility systems equipment and software, which includes the Utility systems SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) program and hardware.
  • Assists with the use, application, and certification/calibration of the Departments confined space entry equipment, which includes: personnel gas detectors (hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, explosives, and oxygen levels), harnesses and climbing equipment, and fall protection devices.
  • Responsible for keeping building and grounds presentable.

Formal Education:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.

Relatable Work Experience:

  • Two years of experience in utility operations, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater facilities is required or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.            
  • Previous pump and motor experience is desired over general utility experience.
  • Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.

Training (License and/or Certification):

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Drivers License
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License 
  • C Ground water license desired or should be obtained within 2 years of employment.
  • Class II Wastewater license desired or should be obtained within 2 years of employment.
