The City of Portland is seeking to immediately hire a seasoned City Planner for a newly created position. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with the development community, property owners, engineers, and city staff. Portland is a premier community, experiencing rapid growth and development. This position will serve as a vital link in the development process to maintain Portland’s high standards of customer service to our community and business partners. 

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Research, review, report and present rezoning cases, subdivision plat applications, special use permits, and zoning text amendments to Planning Commission and City Council and variance requests to the Board of Adjustment.
  • Provide technical assistance to citizens, contractors, developers, others, department and City staff and management regarding the City’s Unified Development Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan and other plans and policies.
  • Serve as liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustments, Planning and Zoning Commission by preparing agenda items.
  • Site review of development applications and other projects to evaluate site conditions, existing neighborhood uses, utility and infrastructure and related information.
  • Provide technical assistance to citizens, contractors, developers City department staff and management.
  • Prepare publications, notices, and ordinances for development application requests.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required. • Bachelor’s degree required. • Over 3 years of related experience required • Must be able to obtain a Planner certificate within 6 months to a year • Ability to effectively communicate with others, oral and written
