Come join a great team! The City of Portland, Texas is receiving applications for Police Officer positions, including a newly budgeted Police Officer position, set to start as soon as possible. The Portland Police Department offers a great work culture, fantastic benefits and strong management and community support. All equipment and uniforms, including boots are supplied. Police Officers enforce laws and ensure the safety and security of the City of Portland and its citizens. This is accomplished by patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergency situations, completing investigation/incident reports, attending community meetings, patrolling special events, and delivery crime-prevention presentations within the community. May perform other related work as required. 

This position is subject to the City of Portland’s Background Investigation and Drug Testing Policy. The City verifies all information prior to extending an offer of employment.  New hires are required to provide proof of identity and legal authority to work in the United States per Federal law.

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 starting pay with one year of experience. Salary increases based on years of experience and education. Annual merit increases available. Longevity, and certification pay offered. All equipment and uniforms are supplied. TMRS retirement 7% 2:1. Excellent and reasonably priced health benefits

Job Requirements

Minimum of 1 year experience required. High School graduate or equivalent required. Basic TCOLE certification required. Ability to work varied shifts, after-hour call-outs, during inclement weather, disaster situations, and other emergency incidents or situations required.

Valid Texas Class C Drivers’ License with a good driving record. Must pass a drug screen and physical exam. Must pass a psychological exam. Must pass an extensive background investigation. This position is essential and attendance is mandatory in the event of a storm or disaster.
