SUMMARY

Directs, coordinates, and performs daily activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing physical structures of municipal drainage systems and right-of-way by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs assigned maintenance, repairs, or improvements of municipal stormwater drainage and conveyance system by cleaning and clearing waterways, repairing and preventing erosion, constructing concrete drainage structures, maintaining and repairing storm drain lines, trimming or removing trees, and vegetation.
  2. Operates heavy equipment and tools such as trucks, backhoe, excavator, air hammer and concrete saw to maintain, repair, and service city surface water drainage.
  3. Determines correct surface grade for drainage and operates excavating equipment.
  4. Constructs forms for concrete and installs reinforcing rod to specifications.
  5. Constructs and repairs surface drains and related structures with materials such as asphalt, cold patching materials or concrete.
  6. Creates and receives work orders through the work order system. Enters completed data into the system to close the request in a timely manner.
  7. Cleans public areas such as job sites, waterways, and rights-of-way.
  8. Assists with the treatment of waterways for mosquito control. Traps and collects mosquito samples for testing.
  9. Completes monthly rodent control in drainage channels.
  10. Services, cleans, and maintains tools and equipment, such as replacing worn or damaged parts.
  11. Assists other Divisions of the Public Works Department as needed, including standby and emergency call back.
  12. Will perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
  13. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

In absence of the Crew Chief, supervises employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma / GED and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
  • Possession of a Texas Department of Agriculture License for Vector Control.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
