PAY AND BENEFITS

 

Annual Pay Range: $88,193.73 - $112,702.67

 

Hourly Pay Range: $42.400831- $54.183976

 

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is looking for an experienced technology professional to join our growing IT unit. The Senior Systems Administrator (Classified as Microcomputer Specialist, Senior) is responsible for installation, maintenance, management, and repair of complex computer hardware systems and software applications. The incumbent will join our team supporting the technology needs of Clackamas County Sheriff Deputies, Parole and Probation Officers, and support staff.

 

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for complex end user support and desktop PC and server maintenance, troubleshooting, software and hardware updates, repair, and network connectivity diagnostics. The incumbent will support the following areas: Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and related business applications; local and networked printers and scanners; in person and remote user support; PC and laptop repair, configuration & installation; and mobile device provisioning and troubleshooting; management of Windows Server operating systems, applications, and infrastructure. Incumbents are responsible for the daily operation and administration of CCSO fixed and mobile workstations. The Senior Systems Administrator will recommend solutions to stakeholders, implement policies and standards, and assist in planning the overall system. Incumbents diagnose problems such as general operating system errors and provide training and general support to users.

 

This position will specialize in the deployment and operation of CCSO's mobile and fixed computer systems to include product lifecycle from purchase to retirement, operating system and application deployment including user migration and setup, hardware and software support and repair, desktop setups and equipment moves, and equipment retirement and disposition. The incumbent will also support, train, and assist users with commercial and law enforcement specific software including e-citation and report writing products, digital evidence management systems, fingerprint readers and computer aided dispatch (CAD) software. Other responsibilities will include setup and troubleshooting of in-vehicle technology including mobile networking, in-car camera systems, mobile printers, and vehicle mounting systems.

 

In addition to the day-to-day technical support of users, devices, and servers, a successful applicant will be capable of designing or recommending solutions for customers unsure of how to best complete their task. This may involve the reuse of existing applications or require out of the box thinking to find a workable solution. Competitive candidates will have demonstrated experience working self-directed and with limited supervision, will be incredibly organized and will have five (5) or more years of experience supporting a Microsoft Windows based client/server environment.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

 

This is a NON-SWORN position that requires a complete Statement of Personal History (SPH).

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

 

• At least five (5) years of experience diagnosing and resolving complex technical computer hardware and software issues in a Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment. This experience must include:

 

• At least three (3) years of experience providing professional customer support and service for non-technical customers in Help Desk and onsite settings.

• At least two (2) years of experience with local area networking (LAN).

• At least one (1) year of experience with installation, troubleshooting, and repair of printers and devices.

 

• Experience with modern patching and deployment software and strategies.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Active directory usage and support including familiarity with ADUC and group policies.

• Working knowledge of scripting methods for automation and application deployment.

• Intermediate proficiency with support for current versions of Microsoft Office suite.

• Must possess strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

• Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test

• Must pass an extensive background investigation, including national fingerprint records check

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

 

• Working knowledge of and experience administering Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Apple Business Manager.

• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and a changing environment.

• Experience configuring and deploying devices, applications, and updates using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (aka SCCM).

• Experience working in project teams as resource and project lead.

• Experience managing Windows Servers, file shares and print queues.

• Experience working in a CJIS regulated environment.

• Experience supporting in vehicle electronics including the support and installation of mobile computer mounts, printers, in-car cameras, and Cradlepoint modems.

• Familiar with VMWare vSphere technologies, Veeam Backup and Recovery.

• Familiarity and experience with Azure AD, Microsoft 365, and/or Azure suite of cloud services.

• Experience supporting or maintaining SQL Server.

TYPICAL TASKS

 

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

 

1. Provides coordination in the planning, design, implementation and support of a LAN; identifies need for networking; monitors progress of activities, such as server support, software upgrades, hardware installation, and inventory control, ensures projects are completed as scheduled.

 

2. Manages the day-to-day operations of the County's LANs; performs administrative and support activities such as server and software configuration, maintenance and connectivity, regular inspection of network wiring, servers, hubs, routers and facilities; installs new hardware and software in the LAN; performs troubleshooting to help resolve problems with hardware and software.

 

3. Researches cost, supply, and performance standards for equipment, software and vendors; determines technical recommendations for service enhancements, equipment and materials acquisition and resource allocation; tests new hardware and software for integrity and usability.

 

4. Administers and maintains user security for access to the LAN; monitors network traffic and makes configuration recommendations on physical and logical network layout, protocol management, operating system interaction and configuration, and security monitoring.

 

5. Develops and implements documentation for network design, configuration, components and use, work station installation, user support, and server maintenance; maintains software licenses and hardware and software inventory; coordinates with County departments to insure conformance to County policies and standards.

 

6. Provides complex technical support to clients in support of their business activities; analyzes and makes recommendations on instructional needs of clients; trains user department personnel in the proper care and general maintenance of microcomputer equipment.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

 

Thorough knowledge of: Microcomputer hardware and software; computer network technologies; hardware and software diagnostic and corrective methodologies; data transfer utilities applications; personal computer hardware configurations including storage devices, printers, graphics, communications and related software; operational characteristics of data processing equipment and peripherals; methods and procedures of software design, development and maintenance; applicable programming languages.

 

Skill to: Analyze complex technical problems and provide logical and effective solutions; read, interpret and apply technical information from resource manuals; plan, organize and document complex network related activities and to configure systems to be consistent with County policies and procedures; research computer trends and make recommendations for future system changes; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including communicating technical information to non-technical users; establish and maintain effective working relationships with county staff and vendors; provide customer service under tight deadlines.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.

 

This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
