JOB SUMMARY: Under direction of Fleet Shift Supervisor, diagnose and repair any City vehicles/equipment, generally requiring a high degree of technical expertise and ability to consistently perform quality repairs. Perform other related work as required. ==========================================================================

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Inspect and diagnose City vehicles/equipment in need of repair. Inform Fleet Shift Supervisor of diagnosis and seek authorization to repair vehicle/equipment. Perform major welding repairs and modifications on all types of vehicles/equipment. Perform needed repairs on vehicles/equipment, including (but not limited to) engine repairs; hydraulic/air brake system repairs; electrical repairs; hydraulic system repairs; manual transmission repairs; and accessories component installation and/or modification. Make emergency repairs on City vehicles/equipment in the field. Accurately account for labor and materials charged to departments on Work Orders. Display good decision making ability in performing repairs. Read, write, and converse in the English language. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Crawl under and/or climbs on vehicles to perform inspections. Operate a large variety of City vehicles and equipment. Lift, pull, and/or push up to 100 pounds of parts inventory. Sit, stand, stoop, twist and/or walk for extended periods of time in performing duties. Work both indoors and outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat, and/or temperature swings. Use appropriate safety precautions in performance of job duties. Keep assigned work area and tools in good condition. As assigned, act as Supervisor when supervisors are in meetings, breaks, or working on special projects. ==========================================================================

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES: High School Diploma of G.E.D. required. Texas Class A Commercial Operator’s License (CDL) required. Texas Class C Drivers License acceptable if applicant has passed the written portion of Class A CDL test. Must obtain Texas Class A CDL within six months of assignment to position. Must have five current ASE Certifications and/or Automotive certifications and/or Medium/Heavy Truck certifications. Any Emergency Vehicle Technician Certifications can be substituted for any one ASE certification. May also substitute AWS Welding Certification for one of the ASE certifications. Certifications must be kept current, and renewed in timely manner. ==========================================================================

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Five years experience required as a Fleet Technician II with the City of Richardson; or ten years experience required as a technician in another fleet or retail automotive environment; or completion of industry trade school (or college courses) related to automotive or diesel technology required. Two years welding experience in automotive or construction field preferred. Knowledge of theory and principles of operation and construction of vehicles and equipment preferred.
