PAY AND BENEFITS

 

Annual Pay Range: $72,534.18 - $91,984.96

 

Hourly Pay Range: $34.872201 - $44.223540

 

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position. This position is classified as a Senior Tourism Specialist.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Clackamas County Tourism seeks a knowledgeable, self-motivated, personable, and detail-oriented communications leader to join our team as a Senior Digital Marketing & Social Media Strategist.

 

The selected candidate will assist in developing and executing tourism marketing initiatives with a strong emphasis on digital marketing and social media planning, strategy, tactics, and analytics, along with content creation and special Tourism projects. This position requires the flexibility to craft messaging for varying audiences, from fact-based, formal content for board members to casual and humorous content for social channels. Success as a Senior Digital Marketing & Social Media Strategist requires effective collaboration with tourism partners, communities, media, and governmental agencies.

 

The Senior Digital Marketing & Social Media Strategist reports to the Marketing Lead, who is responsible for the marketing elements of the tourism program to support the priorities set by the Tourism Development Council and the Tourism Master Plan. Supporting all activities of the tourism program, including publications, marketing, communications, public relations, community relations, and development work, the Senior Digital Marketing & Social Media Strategist leads the work of assigned contractors, vendors, and personnel.

 

Clackamas County Tourism is the destination organization for Clackamas County. It is funded by the transient lodging tax charged on all overnight stays in commercial lodging facilities in the county. Tourism is responsible for strategies that both develop tourism attractions, facilities, and products and market the destination through advertising, promotions, public relations, and sales materials. Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

 

• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry (Examples include customer-facing positions at restaurants, parks, attractions, hotels, outdoor gear shops, and local boutiques.)

• A minimum of three (3) years of experience leading digital marketing and social media planning, strategy, and tactics for a brand

• At least one (1) year of project management experience

• Experience with implementing or overseeing search engine optimization and search engine marketing

• Experience providing excellent customer or client service

• Experience building rapport and relationships with co-workers, vendors, businesses, community members, or potential clients/partners

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to work a flex schedule in order to fulfill social media and content posting requirements outside of the standard hours

• Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. TYPICAL TASKS

 

Typical Job Duties:

 

• Lead digital marketing and social media planning, strategy and tactics and work cross functionally with marketing team and other staff to ensure efforts align with broader organization goals and support the overall marketing work.

• Project manage all digital marketing and paid social media work

 

• Manage assigned account representative relationships; identify KPIs, deliver creative assets and provide ongoing campaign suggestions in order to optimize results.

• Oversee agency responsible for paid social media ads, ensuring optimized campaigns.

• Oversee search engine marketing (SEM) contract and work and lead and coordinate with search engine optimization (SEO) contractor to optimize website and other digital content for SEO.

 

• Execute daily organic social media work and audience engagement.

• Regularly coordinate work and strategies with the PR and Content Lead.

• Maintain relevant components of content calendar and other content management tools and systems.

• Lead all digital marketing, website and social media monitoring, reporting and analytics efforts; use data and insights to continually optimize efforts.

• Lead marketing retention efforts, including creating and optimizing a monthly consumer newsletter.

• Stay current on social media, SEM, SEO and other digital marketing best practices and employ knowledge to improve strategies and tactics.

• Develop and oversee associated budget line items.

• Assist with content creation and graphic design work across owned platforms and for marketing collateral, such as brochures and ads as needed.

• Assist with sourcing content, such as photos and video, from reaching out to individual sources to capturing photos or video in the field to overseeing contracts, as needed.

• Assist with other communications and marketing needs when relevant, from hosting media to overseeing special marketing projects.

• For all work identified by the Marketing Lead as a Project, complete a project brief and work with the project manager to ensure work meets deadline and budget expectations; offer a project debrief for staff afterwards.

• Represent and serve as liaison for Mt. Hood Territory at/on/to various industry organizations, associations and meetings.

• Coordinate with tourism partners and communities to better promote tourism assets and increase ROI, overnight stays and tourism activity within the county.

• Council, advise and provide information and support when appropriate to parties seeking to promote and expand tourism opportunities within the county.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

 

Thorough knowledge of: English composition and language; Google Analytics and social media analytics tools; basic photography and video skills and editing; principles and practices of tourism development, marketing and promotion; best practices for becoming an expert in a new tourism product; principles of public relations and media relations; effective usage of social media, including video, and storytelling for marketing and communication purposes.

 

Working Knowledge of: Public relations, tourism/hospitality, and use of Destination Marketing principles; CRM and CMS website/database management; project management; desktop publishing software and its applications to create presentations and promotional materials.

 

Skill to: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including ability to write for a variety of audiences in a variety of formats; represent Tourism and Mt. Hood Territory offerings to a variety of partners and other interested parties; establish and maintain effective and positive/cooperative working relationships with other staff and tourism partners; direct and motivate support personnel, vendors and contractors; manage time effectively; work independently on several projects simultaneously; exercise independent judgment with limited supervision; motivate people in the workplace; evaluate policies and procedures; assist in budget planning and coordination, contract coordination, and goal setting; gather, organize and evaluate data from an array of sources and conduct/coordinate reports; strong organizational skills; employ digital analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and graphic design software, including Photoshop and InDesign; use standard software programs including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position requires a flex schedule in order to fulfill social media and content posting requirements outside of the standard hours.

The exact amount of on-site/telework and schedule will be discussed with the hiring manager during time of offer. Telework locations cannot be located outside of Oregon or Washington.
