The Senior Civil Engineer position performs routine to complex engineering work related to water and wastewater design and evaluating and considering alternative construction methods for use in design of water and wastewater design projects. Duties include designing, preparing and reviewing construction plans; administering construction contracts; reviewing and revising City construction standards and specifications; overseeing and managing the construction of the capital improvement projects; supervising the in-house design staff and directing and managing design consulting firms; conducting meetings and attending public hearings; responding to citizen questions, complaints and requests for information; and assisting in the development and administration of the departmental budget. Coordinating with outside agencies, corporations and other municipalities in the design of water and wastewater improvements. This position also provides engineering support for public stormwater, streets and parks projects and ensures their conformance to state and local laws and regulations. Duties will require a high level of verbal and written communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, and six years increasing responsible experience in professional engineering design, and three years as a professional engineer is required. Experience with the preparation of design plans, technical specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs for water and wastewater is required. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer design software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Arc View. Must also have Professional Engineer’s license and have or obtain within specified timeframe for a Texas licensure and a valid Texas driver’s license. A résumé must be submitted with application.
