Sunnyvale, Texas, is home to approximately 8,540 residents and covers 16 square miles in Dallas County, less than 15 miles east of downtown Dallas. The Town of Sunnyvale operates under a council-manager form of government with seven Council Members, including the Mayor, elected at-large by place. The Town Manager and Town Secretary are appointed by the Council.

The Engineering Division is responsible for the review, planning, and design of the Town’s infrastructure, which includes drainage, streets, water, and wastewater. Staff ensure that all public improvement projects are constructed in accordance with approved plans as well as the Town’s engineering and design standards. Under the general direction of the Town Engineer Lyle Jenkins, the Assistant Town Engineer/Capital Project Manager is responsible for performing work related to the planning, development, and managing of capital improvement projects. This position is responsible for the review of new development projects as the private development interfaces with the public infrastructure.

A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, plus five years of experience in project or construction management and water/wastewater certifications from TCEQ, or a bachelor’s degree in any field, with seven years of experience in project or construction management, is required. An Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certificate is required at the time of hire. A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) is preferred. This position will go on site visits to active construction sites; therefore, a valid Texas Driver’s License is required. This position is required to attend Town Council evening meetings as necessary. This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities. Work is performed in a standard office environment and at various construction sites. Work is generally performed indoors but may involve limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous tools, equipment, machinery, and chemicals, and unsafe work sites.
