To provide advanced professional and lead planning and design work in directing major activities or strategic initiatives including directing the development, coordination, and review of implementation strategies in support of strategic infill, redevelopment, and new urban initiatives in the County. This position serves as a primary project resource to county initiatives including but not limited to the County’s Comprehensive Plan, Critical Area Planning studies, revitalization/redevelopment plans, strategic planning initiatives, and public/private development plans. This work includes a high degree of public involvement and interaction. This position will lead and oversee assigned projects and functions of assigned planners. This position will contribute to supervisory actions such as coaching assigned planners, work planning and tracking, contributing to employee performance reviews, and strategic or business planning.

 

Job Description:

  • Participates in a project management capacity on strategic initiatives and special projects. Exercises professional judgement in representing the Planning and Development Services Department in public hearings, presentations and meetings with the Board of County Commissioners, Planning Commission, County Attorney, and other County Departments; coordinates with municipalities, adjacent county governments, and other jurisdictions; advises and assists other County Departments, regional and state agencies, citizen groups, property owners and their agents, organizations, attorneys and other interested parties with respect to strategic planning initiatives and projects.
  • Assists in interpreting and analyzing potential outcomes and implications of development alternatives, including providing urban design principles and practices and drafting appropriate responses and recommendations.
  • Oversees Long Range Planning section planners by assisting manager with work planning and assignments, monitoring progress on projects, coaching and developing other planners, contributing to employee performance reviews and employee relations, and providing input to strategic or business planning as requested by manager.

 

 

Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

 

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Geography, or a related field, and eight (8) years of related professional planning experience
  • A Master's Degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Supervisory experience required. Demonstrates leadership experience in large and complex projects.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced professional certification highly desirable. Three years of professional staff experience dealing with local and/or state government and the public.

AICP preferred. Conducting public meetings and communication skills required.

Pay:  $63,128.00 - $85,176.00
