Job Description:

Customer Service

• Provides assistance at all library service locations and stations and communicates policies and procedures to users.

• Represents Sarasota County to library users, assists users in locating, selecting, and using resources, and assists users in use the of library equipment and technology.

• May participate in planning, presentation, and evaluation of library-sponsored programs and set up materials, and equipment as needed.

Collection Development/Maintenance

• Sorts and shelves materials; maintains an orderly arrangement of materials; and monitors physthe ical condition of materials.

 Staff Development

• Participates in cross-training in other sections and aids in cross-training in their section.

• Participates in opportunities for continuing professional development.

• Assists volunteers, as needed.

Work Hours: Part-Time, 20 Hours Per Week

Employees may be reassigned to a different work location (other than the original assignment) within the library system to meet changing service needs. Expected to participate in all hours of operation including daytime, evening, and weekend hours (8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.), as well as hours at other locations.

Work shifts include:

• 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

• 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

• 11:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

• You will be expected to work at least one night a week and be a part of the Saturday rotations.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent education.

• Valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.  

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year of experience in a clerical or customer service environment.

• Working knowledge of computer software dealing with the public response.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
