Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Digital Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing effective digital communication targeted to a wide variety of audiences in an impactful and strategic way. This position works collaboratively with departments to develop, implement, and manage strategic social and digital communications utilizing social media and digital platforms to create community dialogue to ensure the public is well-informed about city projects, services, operations, events, and infrastructure.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop ideas, write, execute, and publish content for City of Red Oak social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and NextDoor.
  • Facilitate online engagement by creating and publishing relevant content, monitoring and responding to comments to foster two-way conversations, and engaging with comments and questions that further develop opportunities for public participation and enhance Red Oak's brand.
  • Develop, implement, and assess digital marketing plans that include content ideas, post scheduling/frequency, response times, partnership opportunities, and collaborations for various projects, events, and initiatives. Compile monthly analytics on strategies used.
  • Plan online/digital purchasing and evaluate the effectiveness and ROI to make recommendations and/or implement strategies or make tactical modifications. 
  • Maintain a strong brand presence that is uniform across all city platforms.
  • Deliver current, inspirational, compelling, and engaging content to tell the story of Red Oak. Storyboard and develop various branded digital assets depicting narrative and audio-/visual scripts. Provide support to pre-and post-production of digital assets; edit and organize digital assets.
  • Assists in developing the overall City social media strategy by implementing best practices, researching audience preferences, and identifying new methods to share social content and other emerging social media channels.
  • Foster internal relationships to gather information and inspiration for content.
  • Support and collaborate with all city departments to ensure consistent, professional, and accurate messaging. Assist with video, and photo concepts, helping create or edit content and messaging, and ensuring alignment with the City of Red Oak brand. Review and report post analytics to inform and refine the content. 
  • Research and advise on potential technology solutions to maximize online engagement.
  • Identify, communicate, and act on opportunities and risks proactively to represent the City of Red Oak appropriately.
  • Support various city-sponsored/partnered public events with promotion/marketing and on-site support.
  • Support internal department staff, council, and board members by coordinating and presenting social media and digital marketing training as deemed necessary.
  • Assists with the City's public website management through regular updates and content creation, including copy and graphics.
  • Assist in the developing and updating of City of Red Oak marketing material, including but not limited to brochures, presentations, e-newsletters, public notices, and other graphic/visual materials. 
  • Assists with special projects and a wide range of communication tasks as needed or assigned.
  • Monitor trends and recommend opportunities for the City to remain a leader in digital marketing.  
  • In times of emergency or crisis, this position may assist with the disbursement of public information in the construct of an Emergency Operations Center.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length in the field of digital media and/or communication and engagement.
  • 3 to 5 year’s experience in social and digital media.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a clear driving record
