GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Responsible for the operation of VIA’s onboard and property video camera program and for the monitoring and processing of information received. Prioritizes work requested and prepares video for Supervisors and Management to review of incidents, accidents, and Open Records Requests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Schedules video for wireless downloads through VIA’s Video Network, and retrieves video from the dedicated video server or storage media from bus, van and support vehicles.

Retrieves video from on property cameras stored remotely on various digital video multiplexers.

Conducts research and investigates to determine precise times and locations of incidents to download correct video segments.

Reviews video images to ensure necessary data is recovered. Be able to identify rules violations and document for Safety Supervisor action or referral of operations or maintenance.

Catalogs and stores video and relevant information pertaining to accidents, incidents and issues of concern within the Video Catalog Database, makes copies of video image files and tracks distribution of same. Establishes workload priorities

Continually monitors the operations and maintenance of onboard and fixed video camera systems using proprietary software. Coordinates availability of fleet vehicles for contractor maintenance.

Relays information to proper external authorities for the purpose of confirming or investigating facts pertaining to incidents or accidents.

Flags incidents for Safety Supervisor review which require the preparation of Special Action Sheets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, and at least 1 year experience in working with video files and related equipment or an equivalent combination.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possess working knowledge of VIA’s service area and revenue vehicles to be able to locate vehicles on route, communicate to operators instructions to hold their position, and recover video from their vehicle.

Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

Must be trained to basic proficiency in the use of computers and computer applications, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Excel a plus.

Must have the ability to learn specialized software programs such as Trapeze Ops, AVL Map and Playback, and proprietary software applications (Compliance Suite, Radio Call Logger, Ellipse and Mincom). 

Must have the ability to work with little supervision.

Adequate understanding of the software and hardware used in the use and configuration of audio and visual equipment. 

Must have a valid driver license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Must have the ability and willingness to exercise independent judgment within boundaries established by the department manager.

Must maintain the confidentiality of sensitive material and information.

Ability to operate usual office equipment and basic hand tools.

Must have ability to read and understand complex materials such as, reports, instructions and manuals.

Must be able to maintain good work attendance.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be mobile and physically able to bend, stoop, stand, reach, and occasionally lift objects such as files, supplies, and large reference boxes weighing 5-25 pounds. Must be able to use both hands and both feet concurrently. Must have sufficient hearing to be aware of work related environment.

Must be able to walk long distances within VIA property.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work involves deadlines and multiple priorities.

Work hours will occasionally involve early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays. 

Work is performed in typical office environments, outdoors and throughout VIA property.
