GENERAL STATEMENT:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Drainage Crew Leader and/or their designated representative, the Stormwater Drainage Technician II will be responsible for maintaining all drainage ways in the City of Kyle.

 

The incumbent's work schedule will be established by the supervisor and may include rotational on-call weekend schedules, and possible overtime due to the nature of the position. This position is also considered to be a member of the City Emergency Response Team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain all drainage ways and associated areas including but not limited to brush/debris haul off, slope/embankment rebuilding, silt fence installation, re-seeding or sodding, curlex, mulch tubes, rock berms, inlet box protection, and assorted items of this nature.
  • Must be able to operate various pieces of equipment such as: a skid steer, backhoe, excavators, gradeall, hydromulcher, bulldozers, blades, loaders, dump trucks, water trucks haul truck, etc.
  • Must be able to work and operate on slopes/embankments.
  • Must be able to shoot shoot elevations to identify grade changes.
  • Occasional work with concrete, both installation and demolition.
  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively with various landowners.
  • Responds to and/or investigates illicit discharge calls such as spills, dumping, and leaks.
  • Will operate a city vehicle/equipment and is responsible for the appearance, maintenance, organization, tool inventory and safe operation of all city vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs the duties of the Crew Leader in their absence, all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge or training of the methods, tools, and equipment of assigned trade area. 
  • Working knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment of other maintenance functions. 
  • Ability to maintain records on materials needed and used. 
  • General operational knowledge, experience, and/or familiarity with all Public Works machinery and equipment.
  • Skill in operating heavy equipment on slopes.
  • Written Communication/Language Skills - Able to read and interpret written information. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diplomas or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of previous drainage/utility or construction experience.
  • Previous experience operating equipment on slopes, in drainageways, detention ponds, etc.
  • Or equivalent combination of training and/or experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of required job duties and expectations.
  • Reliable transportation, and reside within forty-five (45) minutes of the Public Works Department to be called in after work hours in emergency situations.
  • Valid State of Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain C.D.L. license(s), Class A.

Any corrective eyewear required while operating a motor vehicle must be worn at all times while working.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
