Step increases are given annually on the employee's position date.

Lateral pay up to Step P5 ($75,221.36) will be considered for those with qualifying experience.

Under supervision, performs a variety of duties to an assigned area of responsibility such as identifying and apprehending criminal violators; controls and maintains public order and safety; performs related duties as required.

 

Essential Job Functions

Responds to dispatch calls for all types of police services; patrols assigned geographic area to identify and deter criminal activity and public safety hazards. Investigates traffic accidents; arrests criminal and traffic law violators; issues citations and testifies in legal proceedings; conducts investigations of criminal offenses, missing persons, and attends all public safety incidents.

Writes reports of offenses, accidents, arrests and other public safety incidents; directs traffic; intervenes and mediates in crises situations and all types of disputes; performs building and residence security checks; provides high law enforcement visibility to deter crime and inspire community sense of security; refers citizens with non-law enforcement problems to appropriate social service agencies. Attend shift briefings; obtain assignments and equipment.

Communicate with other officers, detectives, district attorney's office about cases.

Executes misdemeanor and felony warrant of arrest; receives crime victims and general public at front desk, refers them to the proper authority; takes fines and bonds and releases prisoners; fingerprints immigration applicants, transfer prisoners to and from other agencies, licensing applicants, employment applications and clearance applicants as assigned. Presents crime prevention programs; provides residential and commercial security surveys. Performs related duties and special projects as assigned. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time. Must be able to testify in court based on Brady v. Maryland and the Michael Morton Act.

Minimum Requirements

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification preferred but not required. See requirements here: Minimum Standards for Enrollment and Initial Licensure.

Other Requirements

Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental designee within two working days of receipt.

Vision 20/200, correctable to 20/20. Must pass a background investigation, polygraph test, psychological test, oral interview by Interviewing Board, and physical exam. Must also be able to pass a Cooper physical assessment, consisting of a 1.5 mile run, 300 meter sprint, sit-ups, and push-ups. Passing scores are dependent upon age and gender.

Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekends.
