Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses
A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Insurance and Risk Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or equivalent from an accredited school or university, plus two (2) years of professional experience in Risk Management including significant experience in workers’ compensation and general liability insurance; municipal experience is preferred; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Class C Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other Safety, Insurance or Risk Management certification preferred.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of risk management and safety functions (risk identification/reduction, loss control, asset protection, employee safety, workers’ compensation programs, etc.); Texas statutes concerning health and safety; Texas statutes as they pertain to claims management; labor laws and policies; handling of sensitive, confidential personnel information; computer and office equipment use; best practices for training and communication of complex, challenging information; data entry and reporting techniques.
Skill/Ability to: Communicate efficiently and effectively regarding laws, policies, and processes; provide clear and concise information and assistance to department management and employees; analyze data and use spreadsheets; investigate thoroughly and document case/incidents in a timely manner; appropriately present information or statistical data to a variety of audiences; operate a motor vehicle to travel to different work sites as needed; position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing and occasional lifting/carrying; and may be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency. |
