Under the direction of the Director of Community Development, the Chief Building Official is responsible for the administration of the permitting process and enforcement of City ordinances, adopted codes, state, and federal law related to development and construction. 

The responsibilities and tasks of the Chief Building Official involve analyzing and evaluating many significant variables effecting the construction of residential and commercial projects in the City.  

The position interacts with external builders, engineers, architects, designers, developers, sub-contractors, and the general public.

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in regulatory, construction permitting and inspections, or in the construction and/or installation of building, electrical, mechanical or plumbing systems as a licensed tradesperson at the Journeyman or Master’s level.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a supervisor.
• International Code Council Building Inspector certification.
• International Code Council Building Plans Examiner certification.
