Situated in the Golden Triangle region of southeast Texas, the City of Nederland is a great place to live, work, and play. Nederland seeks a strong leader with government finance/accounting experience (including payroll and utility billing) to serve as its next Finance Director. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in City organization, operations, policies, and procedures; Government/Financial Accounting Standards Boards (GASB/FASB) and Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) standards, practices, policies, rules, and regulatory reporting requirements; and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Auditing Principles for Public Sector financial management, including budgets, payroll, treasury, grant funds, and public debt management.

The ideal candidate will be thoroughly familiar with the legal, ethical, and professional rules of conduct for municipal finance officers and the principles and practices of public sector administrative management, including personnel rules, budgeting, procurement, contract management, and employee supervision. They will be skilled in financial spreadsheet software applications, specialized accounting, and budget software applications, general ledger and account reconciliation standards, financial record keeping for disasters, and grant record keeping.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or public administration, or a closely related field and five years’ experience in progressively responsible government financial operations, including at least two years’ supervisory experience, is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Candidates must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and/or a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) from Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is preferred.

The City of Nederland offers a salary range of $111,612-$152,048, dependent on qualifications and experience.
