Candidates most suited for this role are those with:

  • Strong financial management abilities in budget development and implementation, revenue and expenditure forecasting, long-term capital improvement financing, debt management, cash investments and economic development financing options. 
  • An exemplary finance professional who demonstrates responsiveness, as well as personal and professional integrity with the ability to inspire the trust and confidence of colleagues, team members and the community. 
  • Ability to communicate complex financial matters in an understandable manner to a wide variety of stakeholders (i.e., talent for “telling the story”). 
  • Ability to effectively engage elected and appointed leadership in a way that fosters effective problem-solving; an individual who is a trusted partner and collaborator in setting policy directions. 
  • A highly collaborative leader with a team-oriented management style who can cultivate a culture of mentorship, empowerment and accountability.

 

The minimum educational requirement for this position is a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field and at least seven (7) years of senior level management, non-profit or business experience in finance or accounting. Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Public Administration (MPA) is highly desirable. A combination of related education and experience that demonstrates the candidate’s knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.

The salary range for this position is $106,221 - $143,711, dependent upon experience and qualifications.  The City of Brookings offers an excellent benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits, as well as paid leave and a longevity benefit. Employees will be enrolled in the South Dakota Retirement System.
