Classification Summary

This position entails tasks that are technical and diverse in nature requiring independent judgment and the ability to work independently. Regular work hours are 8 am to 5 pm, however extended hours will be required. Periodic long hours are required due to deadline driven workload must be able to adapt to flexible work schedules, as necessary. Under the direction of the Village Manager, oversees the operations of the Village departments and assists in the daily management of the Village of Ruidoso. This person exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance within the scope of the job of Deputy Village Manager. This is an exempt position reporting to the Village Manager. 

Job Title Summary

The Deputy Village Manager provides executive level guidance and direction to ensure the efficient management and effective operation of the Village of Ruidoso and all its departments. The Deputy Village Manager assists the Village Manager and directs the day-to-day operations of the Village of Ruidoso to perform this job successfully; an individual must be able to perform each essential function from strategy to execution. The Deputy Village Manager works under the supervision of the Village Manager and performs the duties of the Village Manager during his/her absence. This position is responsible, directly and through subordinate supervisors, for the performance of full time and part time staff. Duties are performed with significant latitude for independent judgment in accordance with Department and Village policies, Federal, State and Local regulations.

Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration or related field preferred and 3 years of professional supervisory level public administration or closely related work or Bachelor Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or other related field and 6 years of professional supervisory level public administration or closely related work or a combination of formal education with a minimum of 10 years professional level public administration for a municipality required.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, negotiation ability, and demonstrated managerial ability. Must be able to pass criminal history checks. Must be able to pass a credit check. Must be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with Village “Drug Free” Policy.
