Position Function - Under the direction of the Director of Public Works and/or Designee, performs assigned duties necessary to assist with the management of the daily operations of the Water/Wastewater division by overseeing the execution and management of water and wastewater programs to include, but are not limited to: installation, maintenance, construction, and repair and/or modification of water and wastewater pipelines, mains, meters, hydrants, and manholes.
Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities |
Required knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School diploma or GED, and at least five (5) of work experience in Public Works field operations; specifically water and wastewater maintenance or a related field. |
Must have two (2) years experience supervising multiple employees. |
Class "C" Water Distribution and/or Class II Wastewater Collection certificates from TCEQ is required. |
A valid State Class A CDL is preferred. |
Ability to read letters, emails, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets, and other job related analysis. |
Ability to write letters, memos, and emails. |
Ability to understand and develop reports/data for cost analysis and compose financial and budgetary reports. |
Ability to exercise substantial independent judgment and decision-making. |
Ability to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance. |
Ability to train assigned personnel in the safe and efficient operation of equipment, to include: excavator, wheel loader, backhoe, hydro-excavator, sewer cleaning equipment, compaction equipment, and other related equipment typically used in water and wastewater system maintenance. |
Ability to multi-task, evaluate, analyze, and execute with widely varied tasks involving many complex and significant variables. |
Ability to competently use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and digital filing and work order systems. |
Ability to research, compile, and analyze data, and present findings to staff and management in an acceptable format. |
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other Federal, State, and local governmental representatives, contractors, consultants, vendors, media, and the general public. |
Ability to exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety. |
Ability to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner. |
Ability to read maps and schematics. |
Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials and practices with particular emphasis on underground utility construction and repair. |
Must be able to work "on-call" hours. |
Must be able to work outside normal business hours. |
Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License. Must pass all post offer pre-employment process and/or procedures, including but not limited to: drug screen, physical, and applicable background checks. |
