Medford Police Department is recruiting for three (3) entry-level Police Officers.

We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated with good communication skills. This position is for Patrol Officers who are assigned to one of the five beats we have in our city.  We expect our officers to not only respond to calls for service, but to proactively patrol their beat and establish relationships with our citizens. Officers are encouraged to find creative solutions to repeat problems in hopes of reducing crime.

A qualified applicant is one who:

  1. Is a high school graduate or has a GED equivalent.
  2. Is 21 years of age by date of hire with no felony convictions.
  3. Has a valid driver's license by date of hire.
  4. Successfully passes the National Testing Network exams (see more information in Supplemental Information section below).

Special requirements:

  • Successfully pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) administered by MPD.
  • Meet Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) established physical standards.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
  • Obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance upon hire.
  • Ability to speak English clearly.
  • Ability to  write the English language clearly, accurately, concisely, legibly, and correctly.
  • Ability to obtain DPSST Basic Police Certificate after successful completion of the academy and field training.
  • Ability to work 24/7 schedules.
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Tobacco use and vaping is prohibited in all City buildings and Police vehicles.

Work schedule:
The patrol teams work 3/12 and 4/10 weekly schedules.  These schedules, combined with a dedicated eight (8) hour training day every month, makes finding a balance between work and home time easier. Monthly training includes valuable refresher topics such as defensive tactics, EVOC, crisis negotiation, MRT, HAZMAT, ethics, leadership, CPR/first aid, and recent legal updates.

National Testing Network (NTN):

NTN is the service provided to conduct the Frontline National Exam in a standardized, professional environment. NTN does not replace the Medford Police Department’s responsibility and decision making in the evaluation process. 

All Police Officer applicants must take the Frontline National exam and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) with the National Testing Network (NTN) by the application closing date. Applicants are not required to complete NTN's Personal History Questionnaire 

1.   Frontline National Exam

  • Sign up for the Frontline National exam by going to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com > click on Find Jobs > Law Enforcement jobs > filter by state to find City of Medford > check box next to the posting > on the left side of the screen, click Continue to see the posting details and to sign up for the exam.
  • In person and virtual testing is available.
    • Be sure to schedule in advance to ensure you complete the process by the deadline!
    • Coming soon - you'll be able to schedule NTN testing at a Rogue Community College facility.
  • The total test time is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
  • I've you've already taken the Frontline National exam, your results are considered valid if taken within the last 12 months from date of online application submission.

  • This cost for this exam is $55.00; the City will reimburse the exam cost upon hire.

2.   Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) 

  • To avoid missing the deadline, we recommend you don't delay in completing this part. 
  • There is no cost for this assessment.
  • This assessment is scheduled on your own time and can be taken at home.
  • There are two parts; part 1 takes approximately 1 hour / part 2 takes approximately 1 and 1/2 hours.

Selection procedures and timelines subject to change.  Those selected must be able to provide proof of legal right to work in this country.  Hiring will be subject to successful completion of the following:

  • Comprehensive background investigation
  • Favorable driving record
  • Psychological examination
  • Physical examination
  • Clear drug screen following federal law (which includes testing for cannabis)
