Description:

Chester County and its 540,000 residents enjoy a high quality of life with outstanding employment and educational opportunities, coupled with an array of performing arts and cultural venues, museums, historical sites, world-renowned gardens, recreational offerings, and an eclectic mixture of dining, microbreweries, and wine tasting options. Referred to locally as “Chesco,” the County includes the City of Coatesville, 15 Boroughs, 57 Townships, and numerous other unincorporated communities within its 762 square miles and is part of Philadelphia’s 6.2 million metropolitan area population.

The Director is responsible for the daily operations of Chester County’s Department of Children, Youth & Families. The CYF Director is responsible for administering the “System of Care Practice Model,” which maximizes all resources around an individual or family.  This system of care includes child and adult serving agencies and community partners that join with an individual or family to meet their goals. The CYF Director reports to Chester County’s Director of the Human Services Department.

Chester County is seeking an authentic, genuine servant leader as its next Director of Children, Youth & Families who can champion the Department’s mission and culture and build upon the County’s statewide leadership and reputation in delivering its programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in child welfare programs and services, be highly strategic and politically savvy, and use their professional network and experience to track trends and related legislation to prepare the CYF Department to respond to the changing service landscape.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in social services or a related degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of social services, including three years in an administrative or supervisory capacity in a children and youth social services program agency.  Candidates possessing an equivalent combination of experience and training may also be considered. Preferred candidates will possess a Master’s degree and 10+ years of experience in social service with progressively responsible positions. Juvenile Court experience and knowledge of the Juvenile Act and a strong knowledge of federal and state laws governing child welfare (including funding streams and program requirements) are also strongly desired. Chester County offers a competitive salary for the position, based upon qualifications and experience.
