GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Responsible for supporting all functions of the STSS division. Works closely with the operating departments of the Authority to document and track accidents, incidents, safety, police, security, training, and emergency management data. Responsible for building analytical reports to track division statistics and trends, in order to determine the factors leading to causation. Conducts research, and analysis and develops findings and recommendations on divisional practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Monitors the data being placed in the division databases for accuracy and completeness.

Works collaboratively with Authority managers and supervisors identifying trends for purposes of developing mitigation strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of these occurrences.

Prepares statistical information reports including graphics, maps, and charts.

Reports safety/security-critical data to oversight agencies such as the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) and the National Transit Database (NTD).

Conducts research and comparative studies of best practices.

Develops outreach initiatives, brochures, and handouts.

Tracks progress on implementing audit recommendations and other regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school or GED equivalent and 2 years of college, plus two years of experience in data analysis or equivalent.

Experience in data analysis, database management, trend analysis, statistical analysis, or related field. Experience in preparing documentation to support justification for corrective action and program improvement preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have effective organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, time management nd interpersonal skills.

Ability to perform phases of analytical work and the ability to communicate and relay information effectively.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel) various programs dealing with the department’s database, and 10 key by touch.

Ability to learn specialized software programs such as Trapeze Ops, AVL Map, and Playback, CrimeStar, and proprietary software applications (Compliance Suite, Radio Call Logger, Ellipse, GIS Mapping, and Mincom).

Ability to read complex materials such as reports, instructions, and manuals.

Ability to work with little supervision.

Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to exercise independent judgment within boundaries established by the department manager.

Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.

Ability to operate usual office equipment.

Must have mathematical skills to include statistical calculations to perform basic calculations.

Must be able to maintain good work attendance.

Perform related duties and projects as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to be mobile and occasionally move objects weighing 5-25 pounds such as files, supplies, and large reference boxes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work frequently involves deadlines and multiple priorities.

May involve irregular hours.

Work is performed in typical office environments, outdoors, and throughout VIA property.

Work can involve being around moving machinery and exposure to dust, fumes, gases, noises, and extremes in temperature/humidity.
