General Statement of Duties

Performs grounds and facility maintenance and ground landscaping on the land side of the Airport; performs directly related work as required.

Examples of Essential Work

  • Performs a wide variety of activities involved with the maintenance and repair of the Airport facilities and grounds;
  • Performs lawn mowing, weed whacking, fertilizing, reseeding and weeding using a variety of lawn and garden equipment including riding lawn mowers, walk behind mowers, and weed eaters;
  • Performs mulching, tree trimming, and tree/plant planting;
  • Maintains parking lot and roadway areas;
  • Performs snow and ice removal at terminal sidewalks, roadways, and parking lots, and aircraft parking ramps using a variety of equipment including, but now limited to, snow blowers and plows;
  • Operates pick-up trucks with plows and/or other light commercial vehicles or equipment in the completion of assigned duties;
  • Performs janitorial services, such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, and dusting using a variety of equipment including, buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and extractors;
  • Sets up rooms for meetings and conferences;
  • Monitors heat and other building systems;
  • Escorts outside personnel and contractors into secure areas of the Airport;
  • Serves as a member of the Airport Building Technician work team;
  • Serves as a member of the Airport Emergency Response Team;
  • Gathers information and submits reports for incidents and/or accidents that occur on the Airport premises;
  • Enforces security rules and regulations;
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions; and more.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
  • Some experience in landscape work, custodial operations, or general maintenance; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Class B CDL; (Must obtain license within six months of appointment)
  • On-call status.
