The City of Dickinson's Police Department is a respected and community-oriented law enforcement agency dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens. We are currently seeking experienced Lateral Police Officers to join our team of dedicated professionals.

Salary: $68,538 - $77,544  depending on qualifications and experience.  UP TO A $5000 SIGN-ON BONUS with a vacation time option!

Lateral Transfer Requirements:

  • Possess a current North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification or out of state equivalent licensing board certification;
  • Must be in good standing with current employing agency;
  • Must not be currently under investigation internally, criminally or civilly;
  • Must have three (3) or more consecutive years of law enforcement field experience;
  • Must be currently employed (full-time) as a licensed law enforcement officer w/full arrest power by a state, county or municipal law enforcement agency; OR
    • Have been laid-off or voluntarily retired within the past twelve (12) months from a qualifying law enforcement agency; AND 
    • Were in good standing and eligible for rehire with the previous employing law enforcement agency.

The City of Dickinson utilizes the following previous/current employing agency minimum criteria to determine qualification for the lateral transfer program:

  • Fulltime service in a municipal law enforcement agency with a sworn staff of 10 or more officers.
  • Fulltime service in a county sheriff’s office with a sworn staff of 15 or more deputies.
  • Fulltime service as uniformed state police officer or trooper.
  • Eligibility of a licensed law enforcement officer holding full arrest powers serving with a federal agency, a state bureau of investigation, a university police department or parole/probation office will be evaluated on a case by case basis by police administration.
