BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the supervision, coordination and control of the City’s general accounting function. Emphasis is on team building, leadership, internal controls, audit and integrity of the City’s financial reporting. As the Chief Accountant, this position leads in coordinating with the external auditors’ preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), including all combining statements and Notes to the Financial Statements

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Must have an advanced knowledge of and ability to appropriately apply accounting theory, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements, charter and all applicable government code
• Ability to analyze and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and legal documents as required
• Ability to present information to and communicate effectively with city staff, management, the city council and the public as required
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions as required
• Must have advanced knowledge and practical skills with computer spreadsheet and word processing software as well as the ability to quickly assimilate Incode financial software

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field with two (2) years of supervisory experience in addition to four (4) years of experience in municipal governmental, large not-for-profit organization or audit firm specializing in governmental accounting is desirable;

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) preferred; OR

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:  A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record

SALARY RANGE: $91804.45 TO $1296583.85
