Job Description

The Workforce Development Department (also known as Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas) is seeking a Communications Intern (16-20 hours/week) to support join the Communications team of the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The Communications team is responsible for various projects including:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop effective messaging strategies that resonate with our audiences and align with our brand voice.
  • Creating and monitoring social media content, in partnership with Communications Manager and Coordinator.
  • Assisting in the creation of email campaigns, including designing templates, drafting content and tracking performance.
  • Identifying community partners who can amplify WSNCT's messaging about programs and services.

Work Schedule & Business Hours:

  • A hybrid schedule of 16-20 hours per week. A minimum of 6 hours must be spent in office each week but may be higher depending on needs.
  • Our business operates Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM and intern work hours must be during business hours.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with planning public meetings and community events
  • Assisting with implementation of marketing and public relations campaigns
  • Gathering and organizing materials to take to community events
  • Designing and updating monthly public input emails, flyers, and postcard templates
  • Drafting website, social media, and publication content
  • Assisting in the maintenance of databases for a variety of projects and programs, including the department’s outreach item inventory software
  • Assisting with the evaluation of communications and outreach strategies through data tracking and analysis

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of CRM and Constant Contact preferred
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, creative, and have ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education & Experience:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired.
  • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred 

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Compensation:

  • Minimum of $15.95 per hour
