The Richmond Regional Planning District Commission (RRPDC), located in Richmond, Virginia, is seeking an experienced, dynamic and energetic transportation planning professional to lead its regional transportation planning and programming efforts. This position is designed to play a significant role in the future of transportation infrastructure in the Richmond region and is ideal for motivated and energetic professionals who possess a strong commitment to public service and regional planning.
The Director of Transportation reports to the Executive Director of the RRPDC and directs the work prioritized by the Richmond Regional Transportation Planning Organization (RRTPO) through development of the Unified Annual Work Program (UPWP). The RRTPO is the federal and state designated MPO for the nine jurisdictions of the Richmond Region. Competitive candidates will possess a comprehensive knowledge of federal and state urban transportation planning requirements as well as familiarity with project development, funding and financial programing. All candidates should demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with members of local government staffs, elected officials and state and federal agency representatives. Strong interpersonal, personnel, fiscal and project management skills are critical to the success of the selected candidate.
Eligible candidates hold an undergraduate degree in Planning, Engineering or a related field and possess significant progressively responsible experience in Transportation Planning. A Master’s degree is preferred with at least 10 years’ experience in Transportation Planning with at least 5 years serving in a supervisory role.
