Scope of Work:

Maintains records of solid waste routes, projects, activities, and productivity levels in the Solid Waste Department. Schedules and organizes community activities and events related to solid waste and recycling. Acts as a Solid Waste Supervisor as needed.

Budgetary Responsibilities:
Assist director in budget preparation by tracking departmental expenditures related to routing and community activities related to solid waste and recycling.

 Essential Job Duties:
  • Update and maintain solid waste route maps and coordinate with Solid Waste Supervisors.
  • Records complaints or problems with service. Operates a two-way radio and assists trucks with problems. Records service calls.
  • Answer telephones and assists citizens and customers with inquiries regarding solid waste services.
  • Meet and greet customers and visitors.
  • Operate a computer and create and modify documents using Microsoft Office and the Solid Waste system.
  • Perform general clerical duties to include, but not limited to: photocopying, faxing, mailing, and filing.
  • Maintain records of work performed such as community activities, routing, vehicle checklists, trip logs, and repair reports.
  • Maintain hard copy and electronic filing system.
  • Prepares a variety of reports on an ongoing basis such as payroll.
  • Establishes new accounts for citizens for items such as compactors, open tops, and residential services.
  • Makes necessary or required changes in billings for customers.
  • Keeps records on all budget expenditures. Records, codes and submits reports to supervision.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from work sites. Employee may be exposed to seasonal temperatures observing work and determining project requirements. Ability to bend and lift in order to collect materials. Employee will be expected to work in the office.

 Required Qualifications:

Ability to effectively communicate with employees, citizens, and other entities and departments who will inquire regarding solid waste procedures. Ability to work with citizens and customers who may have complaints or concerns with services provided.

Knowledge of processes used in the collection and disposal of waste materials. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and telephone protocol. Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a personal computer system.

High school diploma or general education degree required and some college preferred. Valid Texas Driver's License required. Must possess or acquire a valid Texas Class "B" Municipal Solid Waste Operator License within two years of hire date.
