Town of Marana

Marana is the fastest growing community in Southern Arizona and the 2nd largest municipality in Pima County.  The Town was recently recognized as one of the ten most successful cities in Arizona.  Marana lies approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown Tucson and 75 minutes southeast of Phoenix.  The Town makes its decisions based on a Strategic Plan that has five focus areas: Commerce, Community, Heritage, Innovation and Recreation.

Position Description

The Town of Marana is seeking an Equipment Operator to work in the Public Works Department.  This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone interested in having a direct impact on the Town's infrastructure.

Hiring Range: $17.84 - $21.86

Examples of Duties

 

  • Perform general street maintenance which includes grading of roadways, grading of shoulders, culvert repair and maintenance, street sweeping, drainage channel maintenance, bridge de-icing, and mowing
  • May perform general street maintenance which includes removing and replacing concrete and/ or asphalt, patching potholes, and sealing cracks. (Note: This occurs when assisting asphalt and concrete crews)
  • Operates a variety of trucks and heavy equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedure: belly dump, flatbed trailer, 10 wheel dump truck, kick broom, grader, loader, backhoe, gannon box, steel roller, rubber roller, etc.
  • Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment
  • Completes required daily logs and enters reports
  • Identifies and reports mechanical problems
  • Tracks and manages materials and supplies
  • Opportunity to participate with on call program

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Over three years' experience in the road maintenance, construction, or related field operating heavy equipment
  • Must possess an Arizona (Class A) commercial driver license with tanker and passenger endorsements
    • Or - Must possess an Arizona (Class B) commercial driver license and obtain an Arizona (Class A) commercial driver license with tanker and passenger endorsements within 6 months of employment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and a 50 pound lift test
  • Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Equipment transport - transport, haul and/or drive equipment
  • Vac Truck experience - storm drainage system cleaning
  • Surveying experience - shoot grade
  • Computer base work-order experience
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions maybe considered.
