Description

Performs various operations using heavy equipment such as Vac-Trucks, backhoes, dump trucks and front end loaders with skill and safety. Solves various heavy equipment problems with sound reasoning and good Judgment. Works on the water distribution crew as needed for daily operations.

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsibilities include maintenance and operations of water and sewer lines.
  2. Operate and maintain a Vac-Truck for sewer line and manhole cleaning.
  3. Services equipment and makes minor field repairs and adjustments as needed.
  4. Handle manual, electrical, pneumatic power equipment, pumps, high-pressure equipment, and maintenance of small equipment.  Read pressure gauges and conduct residual tests to determine water purity.
  5. Fill out reports on progress of work, estimate time of completion, and keep records of material used and supplies needed.
  6. Train new employees on procedures, how to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  7. Ability to read blueprints for locating water and sewer mains for customers and contractors.
  8. Lift and carry up to 100 pounds/pull or push up to 150 pounds, sit, stand, or stoop for long periods of time. Ability to work in any weather conditions and be on call for emergency situations.
  9. Ability to hear clearly when working around equipment and traffic.  Use proper safety precautions.
  10. Communicate effectively and courteously in person, in writing, over the telephone, and via e-mail.
  11. Ability to follow chain of command, receptive to instruction and supervision.
  12. Must be able to adapt to changing procedures and special assignments.
  13. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Experience and Certification

High school diploma or G.E.D. Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Have at least two years experience as an operator with a C water certification.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have good customer service skills. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and perform strenuous activities. Must be able to obtain a class B-CDL license within 6 months of employment. Must have basic mechanical knowledge.

Salary Range:
$32,918.08 - $47,733.92/yr DOE
