About the Position
The Laboratory Technician monitors raw and finished water parameters.  The individual in this role maintains inventory of bulk process chemicals and assists in preparing bid documents.  Further responsibilities will include performing calibrations on laboratory equipment and maintaining the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures Manual.



  • Performs raw water analysis, chemical and biological lab tests and analyzes results. Performs calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintains inventory on reagents, and hardware and maintains laboratory equipment and glassware.
  • Maintains laboratory Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
  • Backs up operators in emergency situations, operates plant in absence of operators.
  • Accepts or rejects chemical shipments.  Maintains inventory of bulk process chemicals and assists in preparing bid documents.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.




  1. High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  2. Two (2) years experience at a surface water plant in a laboratory technician or operator capacity OR 32 hours of college level courses majoring in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or similar disciplines which will be subject to approval on a case by case basis by TCEQ.
  3. Must obtain a Grade "B" Surface Water License from TCEQ within three (3) years of date in position.
  4. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.


  1. Grade "C" Surface Water License from TCEQ.
  2. Associates Degree in Science Discipline such as Biology, Chemistry, etc.
  3. Grade "C" Wastewater Treatment License from TCEQ



Ability to perform wet analysis, analyze results and apply to plant process.  Ability to communicate and get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.  Basic mathematical and algebraic skills.  Ability to interpret graphs and charts.
