Water Utility Superintendent
Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Wells Water District
The Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Wells Water District, one of Maine's premier water utilities, is seeking a successor to its retiring superintendent.
Established in 1921, this nonprofit, quasi-municipal public utility serves seven communities and a population ranging seasonally from 30,000 to nearly 100,000. The District's service territory is the second longest in Maine, extending over 20 miles along the York County coastline.
Plant Assets are nearly $70 million with Operating Revenues of nearly $7 million. Source water includes Branch Brook as well as eight wells with a combined daily capacity of 8.3 million gallons. Average Daily Demand is 2.9 million gallons with a maximum day of 6.5 MGD. The distribution system consists of over 219 miles of mains ranging in size from 2 inch to 20 inch providing water to 13,900 metered customers, of which 3,400 are seasonal. The distribution system includes 714 public fire hydrants. Finished water storage facilities consist of 5 standpipes and 2 elevated tanks, with a total storage capacity of 7.7 million gallons
Reporting to the District's four-member Board of Trustees, the Superintendent provides overall vision and leadership and direction to a forty-two member workforce. This executive is responsible for understanding and overseeing all aspects of the operation while maintaining the high levels of morale and engagement currently embodied throughout the organization. This highly motivated and skilled staff work under the Superintendent's supervision to achieve the District's mission of providing the highest quality of water and customer service at the lowest reasonable cost.
The selected candidate will ideally possess senior-level utility experience with expertise in strategic planning and board relations. The ability to develop and maintain positive relations with regulators is vital. The successful candidate will serve as a knowledgeable, reliable and authoritative resource to the District's communities, and will possess excellent skills, both as a public speaker and in written communications.
This is an outstanding career opportunity for an accomplished and talented professional to lead one of Maine's most reputable and respected water utilities.
