Description

This is a civilian position primarily responsible for the handling of all police department records.  The primary task is associated with data entry and filing of all original documents.  Every employee in this department must make ethical decisions daily, conform to applicable laws and departmental policy and communicate effectively with citizens and coworkers, and remaining professional in all circumstances.

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Read a variety of reports and documents, photocopy documents as needed, and enter data and narrative text into the police department computer network.  Must keep sensitive information confidential.
  2. Routine filing of original documents. 
  3. Routinely answer telephones and direct calls appropriately.
  4. Assist citizens at the walk-up window, providing information and documents as required by the Public Information Act.
  5. Handle and process cash and checks routinely at the records window and in processing bonds.
  6. Receive and process departmental mail.
  7. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  8. Perform and meet all physical requirements, skills, and abilities listed.

 

Education, Experience and Certification

Required: 

  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  3. No misdemeanor convictions above Class C in the past five years.
  4. No criminal history in any state or country.
  5. A valid Texas driver’s license with no convictions of DWI.
  6. Ability to type 40 wpm, with a working knowledge of basic computer operations using Windows and Microsoft Office.
  7. Pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, written and oral entrance exams, polygraph, psychological and a detailed background investigation.

 Preferred: 

  1. Ability to type 60 wpm.
  2. Previous law enforcement related experience.
  3. Ability to speak Spanish.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Must be able to remain professional and courteous while dealing with angry or hostile individuals.
  2. Ability to safely operate a city vehicle and attend required training, which might require travel occasionally overnight, or attend and testify in court when summoned.
  3. Ability to work with others effectively as a team to accomplish tasks without discriminating against race, religion, color, gender, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation or veteran status.
  4. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally in person or on the telephone, and in writing.
  5. Must be able to sit for eight or more hours while entering data into a computer, stand for extended periods of time at customer window or at a copy machine, and bend to lift, carry, drag, or move up to a 50 pound box of material.
  6. Must have vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing correctable to normal range.

 

Starting Salary: $31, 349.76/yr
